As Christmas time is here I thought it was time to share my 2010 BBC festive film Bad Night For The Blues. It stars the late great Jean Boht with Kieran Lynn. It was produced by Maria Manton, who is also no longer with us. I will be raising a glass to Maria and Jean in their memory. The film tells the story of a night out in a local Conservative Club with Aunty Glad. This festive frolic was the winner of the Canal+ International Award at 2011 Clermont Ferrand International Film Festival.

My graphic novel started when I drew a Xmas card in 1998. I wanted to draw it in a classic French comic book style and visualised Santa arriving at Liverpool Lime Street station via British Railways. That style always stuck with me and I would later emulate it for Anfield Road. It looked like this…
I just want to thank everyone who bought Anfield Road as Christmas presents for their relatives. It’s funny to think that people will be opening their pressies and getting my book! I’m out of copies now on the Etsy shop until the book’s second print is available in January 2025. There are still copies at the Guardian Bookshop and signed copies at Forbidden Planet. Thanks to Titan and to everyone who sold the book out – your support it means a lot. Also, a big shout out to everyone who made the events such a success. Big thanks to David Anderson, Duncan Baizley, Helen Brunsdon, Bar Shorts, Shaun Clark, Bernie Connor, Alex Fitch, Garden Cinema, Steve Henderson, Sarah Hughes, Mark Love, Caroline Meakin, Jaid Mindang, Will O’Mullane, Alexei Sayle, Helen Serafinowicz, Jez Stewart, Caitlin Storer, Andrew Sumner, Nag Vladermersky, Lorraine Walters and Ian West.
Hope you all have a great holiday. xx
