Last week was another action-packed week in Liverpool!

On October 9th, to mark the 130th anniversary of Everton Library, Chris joined an event hosted by the Merseyside Civic Society at St George’s Church. The gathering set out the Everton Library Trust’s plan to save the iconic building, which has stood empty for 26 years. The ultimate goal? To transform it back into a vibrant library and community hub.

It was an inspiring day, featuring insights from Professor Simon Lee, Polly Mosley, local musician Gary George O’Donnell, and of course, Chris. Throughout the event, speakers highlighted the value of libraries, the rich history of the area, and the enduring power of community. Bringing this beloved building back to life is very much a dream for local residents. We even had a cake to celebrate John Lennon’s 86th. Attendees even got a glimpse inside Everton Library, thanks to Liverpool John Moores University’s incredible VR headsets! For Chris, it was an extra special moment, as he hadn’t stepped inside St George’s Church in years. Everton Library was a big part of Chris’s youth and he is passionate about saving it. On October 10th and 11th, Chris headed to Monopoly Events’ Liverpool Comic Con. It was an amazing weekend, and he was deeply moved by the local support for his book, Anfield Road. It was great to reconnect with old school friends like Roy and Julie, and even Redmen TV’s Paul Machin popped by to say hello! A big thanks to Monopoly for making it happen.

This was Chris’s last Comic Con before Thought Bubble—so if you’re attending, be sure to drop by and say hi! But if you fancy a copy of Anfield Road Chris signed some which are at Forbidden Planet on Bold Street and there are still copies online available here.
