Comics Youth are thrilled to welcome award‑winning artist, writer and filmmaker Chris Shepherd to Comics Declassified!

Chris has carved out a remarkable career across animation, film and comedy, picking up international acclaim along the way—including a BIFA and two BAFTA nominations. He’s also the creator of Anfield Road, a raw, funny and heartfelt coming‑of‑age graphic novel set against the backdrop of 1980s Merseyside.

A Second Chance to Catch Chris — at Homebaked Café!

Chris will also be appearing at the legendary Homebaked Café in Anfield on 24 March, where he’ll be diving deeper into the world of Anfield Road—right in the neighbourhood that inspired it.

The event is called Back To Our Roots. Expect a warm, intimate talk, an exhibition inside the bakery, and the unmistakable smell of fresh pies drifting through the air. It’s free and is to support the Everton Library Trust as they attempt to save the grade 2 listed library that closed in 1999. If you want to find out more or help get in touch with the trust on support@evertonlibrary.org.

  • When: 24 March
  • Where: Homebaked Café, Anfield
  • Time: 4:30–6:30 PM

This one’s not to be missed—come early, grab a pie, and hear Chris talk about the book in the very place it’s rooted.

If you can’t make it to either event, you can still dive into the world of Anfield Road by picking up a copy from the shop. And if you order through the Etsy store, Chris will even sign your copy, making it a proper keepsake for fans of Liverpool stories, indie comics and Merseyside history. Here are the purchasing options.
