The tour continues with Chris Shepherd’s latest appearance at the Repton Festival, hosted by the Inferno Book Club. In a special talk dedicated to the memory of Diogo Jota, Chris shared personal stories, behind-the-scenes insights, and the creative journey behind his debut graphic novel. Big thanks to Derby University’s Tom Craig who hosted the event and to Lesley Reynolds, Steve Hardwick who organised it all. Special thanks to Dr Ranjit Verma who gave me a lift from the station. It was a fun afternoon.



Many Viking weapons were on display and recreations of Vikings in battle. Thankfully the accident book didn’t have to come out.


Tom showed Chris some slight of hand. His volunteer for this was accomplished poet and poet in residence at Trinity College Cambridge – Tristram Fane Saunders. Tristram releases a lot of publications and is well worth checking out.

NEWARK BOOK FESTIVAL : CREATIVE BATTLES UNCOVERED
On 12th July, Chris will take the stage at Newark Book Festival alongside Gillie Ford, Eleanor Tomlinson, and The Guardian’s Lucy Mangan to explore the challenges and triumphs of creativity. Together, they will delve into the artistic process, discussing the hurdles faced in storytelling, illustration, fashion, and journalism.
Gillie Ford brings her experience from The Great British Sewing Bee, blending her passion for sewing and Parisian elegance. Eleanor Tomlinson, renowned for her intricate ink and watercolour work, shares insights into visual storytelling inspired by the British countryside. THE CAPTION COMICS FESTIVAL
The Caption Comics Festival is a small, cozy event in Oxford celebrating British small press and independent comics. The 2025 edition, called Caption Rebirth, will take place on August 16-17 at Seacourt Hall, Botley. Unlike larger conventions, Caption fosters a relaxed atmosphere where creators and attendees mingle freely.
This year’s festival features panels, workshops, portfolio reviews, and a community sales table. Confirmed guests include Lucy Sullivan, Andy Oliver, Beck Kubrick, Chris Shepherd, Dominique Duong, Zara Slattery, Paul B. Rainy, Cara Brown, Mike Armstrong, and Shane Melisse. THE LAKES INTERNATIONAL COMIC ART FESTIVAL
The Lakes International Comic Art Festival (LICAF) is an annual celebration of comics and graphic novels held in Bowness-on-Windermere, England. The 2025 edition will take place from September 26-28 and will feature live draws, interviews, workshops, exhibitions, book launches, and a Comics Marketplace. LICAF is known for its international lineup of comic creators, which this year includes Chris Shepherd, showcasing talent from around the world. The festival also runs year-round projects under the theme Comics Can Change the World, using comics to promote literacy, education, and environmental awareness.
