What an inspiring time we had at the Newark Book Festival! On 12th July, Newark Town Hall played host to a lively and thought-provoking discussion about creativity that left audiences buzzing.
Chris Shepherd captivated attendees with insights into his project Anfield Road, offering a glimpse into the heart and grit of storytelling. Lucy Mangan enchanted the room as she shared her deep love of books while introducing her latest novel Bookish, a true celebration of the literary life. Illustrator Eleanor Tomlinson gave a personal and fascinating account of her journey in the art world, while Gillie Ford, best known from The Great British Sewing Bee, wowed the crowd with her stunning costume designs that blur the line between fashion and fantasy. Thanks to the skilful chairing by Dr Tim Rideout, the panel delved deep into the sparks behind the creative process, exploring what drives artists, writers, and makers to create. The conversation was dynamic, funny, and full of heart.
From start to finish, it was a day that reminded us why creativity matters and how it connects us all.
THE STORY CONTINUES: Anfield Road Heads to Liverpool
The book tour isn’t slowing down! Next up, Chris Shepherd will be at Forbidden Planet in Liverpool, marking the exciting refit of the Bold Street store with a book signing event on 9th August at 2PM. It’s a brilliant opportunity to meet Chris in person and get your copy of Anfield Road signed.
🎶 As a fun bit of local history, the shop was once home to Nipper the dog, the canine star of the iconic HMV logo, listening intently to “his master’s voice.” It’s the perfect setting for a celebration of creative storytelling!
So if you’re in the area, come by, say hello, and soak up the atmosphere. Bold Street has never looked better and neither has Anfield Road.
